So as TDH likes to say, I'm a day late and a dollar short for my weekend review. I was traveling back from my parent's yesterday, so I do have a good excuse. I spent the weekend with my family and it was wonderful.
We ate lots of delicious food.....
Fried Fish and Biscuits
Creme Brulee
We spent all day Saturday at the beach. The water was absolutely gorgeous.
It was fun watching the drunk people sitting in front of us. One of the women had a big bottle (as in plastic, just so you get how big it was) of Crown Royal and poured half of it into her cup. The group then proceeded to line dance and there were even people out in the water on the sandbar doing the Cupid Shuffle. Needless to say, the woman with the Crown Royal ate sand quite a few times. It was quite the entertaining day.
After a fun-filled weekend, it's back to reality. I have quite a few fun things that I'm looking forward to, so it made it easier to come back. I'm off to work now, have a wonderful day!

Friday Confessions
Linking up for a second time for Friday Confessions with Leslie!
1. I may or may not have driven to the Exchange JUST to buy one of the new fall colors from Essie that I've been eyeing. Essie nail polishes are $2 cheaper at the Exchange than they are at other retail stores (so take note all of you with military ids.....). A cheaper price and the fact that I was in the general area were two good enough reasons for me to swing by and pick up Essie's new color, Stylenomics. I normally try save all of my Exchange shopping trips for Mondays, when I do my grocery shopping at the Commisary. It helps take some of the pain out of grocery shopping at the Commisary......
I love the color btw.
2. I bought Cinderella the day it came out. And then I bought it again yesterday for my husband's cousin's little girl for her upcoming birthday. I love introducing her to Disney princess movies she hasn't seen yet! The second time I bought it, I got it during my trip to the Exchange. It was selling for $34.99!!!! What?!!? Seeing that I had just bought it at Wal-Mart for $22 (almost $13 cheaper!) I was not having this. I knew they price-matched certain electronics, so I asked if they would price match dvds. They do, just f.y.i., and I got it for $22 with no tax. Winning!
3. Another winning moment? Calling M&M's customer service and asking if they could give me a discount on my personalized order since they're part of my gift to my deployed husband for our first wedding anniversary. They said yes! They were so good to work with me and give me a good discount. M&M's are TDH's favorite candy, so I decided to do a personalized order in our wedding colors (pink, black and gold) and put 2 sweet messages on them. I can't wait for him to get them! Thank you M&M's customer service for being great!
4. I've been missing TDH A LOT. Maybe because we're coming up on our FIRST wedding anniversary, or maybe it's because we're in the home stretch of deployment and I'm just ready for him to be back to hold me, give me kisses and to fall asleep in his arms every night. I'm pretty sure it's both- is it December yet?!!?
5. One of my fantasies would be to take Rachel Berry's place singing with Sarah Jessica Parker and twirling around in couture like in last week's episode of Glee. Be still my beating heart....
That's all I've got for now, have a wonderful weekend!

Confessional Friday
I love reading everyone's "confessional" posts so I decided to link up with Leslie at A Blonde Ambition and try it myself.
I confess.....
1. After almost a year of being married, I still have to think about my name before I introduce myself to people, say or write my name, etc. so I don't say my maiden name instead of my married one. Oops...
2. I cannot believe TDH and I have been married for almost a year! Where has the time gone?!!? It'll be October next week and it seems like this month has flown by. I'm not complaining though, that means we're that much closer to TDH's return. Yippee!!!!!
3. I spent most of Wednesday sleeping. I only got up to take a care package for my husband to the post office. You're welcome TDH. I could feel the sinus junk coming on and knew I had a busy day at work ahead of me for Thursday. So I rested and tried to nip it in the bud before it got too much worse. So I just lied to you and my hubby- I just cam back from sending his box- too sick to do it Wednesday. It ended up being a good thing since a shirt he ordered and one of his magazines came in the mail yesterday. He wasn't too mad......
4. I don't have the heart to change my current table ceterpiece to a fall one yet. My current one includes a tea set and vase that TDH brought back when he was home for a week in July. Just seeing it on my table makes me smile and think of him and the fun week we had. And maybe if I wish really really hard, he'll come walking through the door in the afternoon home from work (only 2 more months!!!). Disclaimer: I know this probably sounds silly or weird to non-military people and even maybe military people.
5. I had a really hard time getting into the fall spirit this year. I'm pretty sure it was the 1,000+ degree weather with humidity to match that was the issue. I finally started to feel it after making the Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese and Carmel Apple cake that I talked about here. I also stepped outside while the scent of carmel apple was wafting through my kitchen to realize it was kind of chilly out. That played a huge factor in my change in attitude.
6. The cooler weather has given me renewed energy. Seriously, I don't even know who this person is. I'm really happy all the time and have tons of energy. Nothing in particular has happened to change this either. I find myself feeling really blessed as of late. Even TDH has noticed the difference and kept asking me jokingly if I'd taken drugs or something because I have been bouncing off the walls while we've been Skyping. This summer heat was brutal. As in, I was taking a 3 hour nap every afternoon even if all I had done was step outside for 2 seconds. Pathetic, I know.
7. I cannot wait for my friend A to have her babies! I'm really interested to see what they'll look like. I'm sure they'll be adorable.
8. On that same note, I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that her husband can make it home in time for the birth. We have a lot of pregnant wives (a lot of firstborns too), so they are trying to send the husbands back for a week or two so they can be there for the birth. I may or may not have told Daniel to volunteer to say on deployment longer if it meant A's husband will get to come home for the birth even though I'm pretty sure that's not how it works hahaha.
That's all I have for now. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

why yes, that is a picture of a dogfight with an aircraft carrier on the wall- working on getting that in the guest room.....

Sweeps Week! (a.k.a. the return of fall shows)
I'm so excited for my favorite shows to start back this week! Especially Modern Family, which will be on tonight. TDH has been telling me every day for the past 2 weeks that Modern Family starts back tonight. Can you tell he's excited too? Lol. It will give us something new to talk about on Skype....
I'm pretty sure this is going to be my husband's reaction when I tell him we're pregnant (we're not,
btw) Source: Yahoo homepage
Other shows I'll be watching this week?
TDH says this show is stupid, I tell him to shut up. Can't you tell we love each other?
Don't let this fool you into thinking I'm a couch potato, I'll probably be dvr'ing most of these shows and watching them whenever I get a few minutes here and there. What shows will you be watching?
I'm off to mail a care package to the hubby, until next time!

New dishes
Sunday night I was super motivated and tried out two new recipes that I got from Pinterest (oh Pinterest, what did we ever do before you existed?!!?). I did laundry and cleaned while making them too. Disclaimer: this is not normal behavior for me (the laundry and cleaning part), just ask TDH. I was super proud of myself!
The first recipe was Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese. I didn't know how good it would be, but it blew my socks off.
If you're looking for a twist from the normal mac and cheese that tastes gourmet, try this! It was fairly simple but was a little time consuming. Definitely worth it though! Did I mention it's a great way to get your veggies in? At least that's what I told myself as I was shoveling it in my mouth...... You can find the recipe here.
For dessert I made Carmel Apple Cake. I had all the ingredients on hand except the brown sugar and was able to use the leftover apples from the shower so nothing went to waste. It was easy to make too. Recipe here.
I'll admit that I wasn't really feeling fall yet. I have had my Starbuck's Pumpkin Spice Latte and burned my Yankee Candle Harvest candle, all to no avail. Maybe it had something to do with the million + degree weather or the fact that I spent most of my Sunday at the pool. After cooking these dishes, I was in a fall frame of mind. Walking outside and it being about 10 degrees cooler might have helped too. Hooray for cooler weather!

Hello There!
So it's been about a month since I was here last. Sorry for the lack of posting- I've been super busy! And it doesn't seem like it's going to slow down much, but at least most of the upcoming activities are ones that I'm not in charge of so that should help a lot. I'm not complaining though since being busy makes the time go by faster which means we're getting closer and closer to TDH being home!!!! Hooray!! The past month has included a trip to Savannah, 2 spouse's club events, baby shower and a crazy work load at my job (which I love!).
First up, Savannah was a culinary experience. I tried chocolate covered bacon topped with pecans and it was life changing. absolutely AMAZING
mmmmm........
This was from the Bohemian Hotel's rooftop bar. If you're ever in Savannah I'd definitely recommend going here. They have wonderful drinks and food and a beautiful view of the river and downtown. This was my second time going here, TDH and I went back at Christmas.
I also had a pimento cheese and fried green tomato burger and cheesy tots in hot sauce. Soooo good. I thought the pimento cheese would be cold, but it was melted on the burger, no complaints here! I'm going to take TDH here if we visit Savannah again since he loves burgers.
Right before my trip, our spouse's club had our over-the-hump party. For those of you not familiar with military lingo, this is a party to celebrate the halfway mark point of deployment. Yay! The place we had it at was at a bar/restaurant where they had a live band and the waiters/waitresses would come up and sing and dance. You can also dance on the bar and chairs, but not the tables. WE mave or may not have danced on our chairs..... We had a great time and it was nice talking to some of the wives that I haven't seen in a while and meeting new ones! One of my friends and I have decided to go back when our husbands our home- can't wait : ).
This past week, 6 of us from the spouse's club went to Melting Pot since they were doing a 2 can dine for $49 special. I had put the event together and was kind of dreading it since I was going to be in line at the crack of dawn the next morning to get an iPhone 5 and had a crazy busy week. It ended up being just what I needed to destress and relax. I met a new wife and got to get to know another one better. It was fun getting to hear everyone's stories and comiserate about the woes of deployment.
I got an iPhone 5 and am loving it! I just used Facetime last night for the first time and I'm loving having Instagram. More on the phone once I've had some time to play with it.
This past weekend, I hosted a baby shower for one of my friends( A is also a military wife). She is the sweetest person ever and I'm so glad I was able to do this for her. It was a owl and fall themed shower. I'll do a post with all the deets and more pics later this week. Here's a sneak peek:
I promise to do a better job at updating the blog! Gotta get ready for work, so goodbye for now : )

Dinner and a dress
Yesterday, I told ya'll I was going to be making a quiona dish for dinner. It was pretty good, but I think I'll half the amount of garbanzo beans next time bc all I could taste was bland garbanzo beans. I also think adding curried chicken would make this dish perfect, although it defeats the whole purpose of being a meatless meal. But a little chicken never hurt anyone, right? This meal will make your kitchen smell heavenly, since it uses a bunch of different spices. If you can find the Spiced Quiona recipe here.

I just finished ordering this dress from The Limited- LOVE.IT.
via The Limited
They were having an up to 60% off dresses sale on their website for today only and this one was 40%. Since it seems to stay hot here year around, this will be the perfect dress for fall and winter. I can still feel like I'm in season appropriate clothes without dying of heat. If we have a rare day where it's cooler or cold, I can put a black blazer or cardigan over it. I can't wait for it to get here!
That's all I have for now, hope ya'll are having a good week!
